I only ever use traditional "instant kill" traps to catch moles, as I believe this to be the most humane method which causes the minimum distress to the mole.  My traps will always be checked at least every twenty-four hours.  At least two visits will always be necessary, but this may be more depending on how many moles are present (and obviously the success of my trap placement!).
